CONSIDER THE LOBSTER (Blog #6)

Updated: Apr 17, 2018

"Consider the Lobster" by David Foster Wallace is a feature article from a food magazine. The main idea of this piece is to describe and depict how eating lobster is an inhumane thing to do. Wallace tends to be sarcastic throughout the work, and he also seems to poke fun at the upper and middle class for eating lobster. Additionally, he goes through the process of how lobster is properly cooked, which can be viewed as an attempt to convince people of how cruel eating animals is. I believe this is an excellent model text for our second project because Wallace encompasses many different things in his article, such as different examples and history of lobster festivals. Our projects should be open to having different types of things that all circumvent around the central topic. Additionally, Wallace's text shows how to perfectly target a community- in his case upper class people who enjoy eating lobster.
