When I read this chapter from the Bedford Book of Genres, I really liked how it first established how everyone has their own identity. However, we all at once point or another have struggled to give ourselves an identity if put on the spot. My favorite part about this reading was how to start off trying to figure out your own identity by making two lists and a collage. The first list is about you and your heritage, the second list is about you and your prized possessions, and the third list is about making a collage to see the assumptions being made about being American. I thought this was an excellent exercise because everything in your life adds up to your own identity, but one doesn't always see it for themselves.
