• Genre: category of composition / literature

• Rhetorical Appeals:

  • Ethos: credibility

  • Pathos: emotional appeal

  • Logos: using reason

  • Kairos: the opportune moment

• Rhetorical Situation: all of the things that helped create the text 

  • Purpose: what the author was trying to accomplish

  • Audience: who the author wanted to read their piece, or hear their speech

  • Tone/style: the way someone writes something

  • Exigence: why the author MUST compose the text 

  • Subject: what the piece is about
